Autistically Yours

The Third Voice

Very few relationships exist between only two people.

Even when the conversation appears private, there are usually other perspectives hovering just outside the room.

Friends. Partners. Memories of past experiences. Advice we’ve heard from people we trust.

Those voices shape interpretation.

Sometimes they bring clarity.

Sometimes they introduce doubt.

The tricky part is that no one ever hears those voices in exactly the same way. One person experiences them as helpful perspective. Another hears them as outside influence.

And once suspicion about influence enters a conversation, trust becomes fragile.

Not because anyone necessarily did something wrong.

Because uncertainty about whose voice is shaping a decision can make even honest answers feel incomplete.

It’s a reminder that relationships rarely operate in isolation.

We carry entire social ecosystems into them whether we mean to or not.
